What makes CincyNature Camp special?

All camps at Cincinnati Nature Center are designed with the goal of providing fun, hands-on, educational experiences in nature for children ages 5 to 15 years. Our camps challenge kids to be active and creative while developing confidence and social skills in a natural setting. Our small camper-to-staff ratio allows for increased personalized attention for our campers. Our camp counselors make camps engaging and joyful for kids while promoting inclusiveness, safety, age-appropriateness, andpassion for nature.

How do you ensure safety at camp?

The safety and well-being of our campers is our top priority. Camp staff complete training before the start of camp, including first aid, CPR, emergency procedures, risk management, and child supervision best practices. All staff members are also required to pass a criminal background check before working with campers.

Our camps maintain appropriate staff-to-camper ratios, and staff actively supervise participants throughout the day to help ensure a safe, positive, and inclusive environment. Emergency action plans are in place for a variety of situations, and staff are trained to respond quickly and appropriately to health, behavioral, or safety concerns.

Because many of our camps take place outdoors, we closely monitor weather conditions and have procedures in place for severe weather, extreme heat, and other environmental conditions. Activities may be modified, relocated, or suspended when necessary to protect the safety of campers and staff.

Parents and guardians play an important role in helping us maintain a safe camp environment. We encourage families to provide complete and accurate medical and emergency contact information during registration and to communicate any special needs or concerns before camp begins.

I’ve never been to Long Branch Farm & Trails. Is it going to be out of my way?

Long Branch is only about 10 miles north of Rowe Woods, located just off of OH-28 and close to Loveland. The beauty of Long Branch Farm & Trails is in its remoteness; fewer members hike daily at Long Branch, allowing campers more space and freedom to explore.

The description says this camp includes a wide range of ages. How will you maintain age-appropriate experiences for my camper?

Each camp has something special to offer to all children within the designated age range. Camps with a wide mixed-age audience are separated into smaller, age appropriate groups to guarantee the best experience.

Can I ensure that my camper will be in the same group as their friend when campers are divided into groups?

If your camper has a friend or relative registered in their camp that you wish to place in the same trail group, we’ll do our best to accommodate mutually made requests for 1 other camper who is within 2 years of age. Both campers involved must make this request on their online health form under the “Buddy Request” section, by including the camp name and the first and last name of a mutually requested friend. Requests must be made 1 week before the camp start date. If your request is outside of these parameters, please reach out to camps@cincynature.org with your request and circumstances.

My young camper is outside of the age range for a certain camp; can they still attend? They’re advanced for their age.

We do not allow children outside of the designated age range to join in camp. Camps are carefully designed for specific age groups and, within most of our camps, children are further separated into smaller, similarly-aged groups to ensure the best quality experience at camp.

Do you provide accommodations for campers with disabilities or specific support needs?

We’re committed to creating an inclusive and supportive environment for all children. We work with families to provide reasonable accommodations that ensure every camper can participate safely and fully in our programs. Please contact us at camps@cincynature.org to set up atime to discuss your camper’s specific situation and how we can best support your family.

My camper has food allergies. How do you accommodate?

The health and safety of our campers is a top priority. We have experience supporting many campers with food allergies and understand that each situation is unique. Accommodations are based on the nature and severity of the allergy, as well as information provided by parents or guardians during registration.

We ask families to clearly identify all food allergies and dietary concerns during registration and to provide any necessary emergency action plans or medications. Camp staff will work with families to understand each camper's needs and develop appropriate precautions.

For campers with severe food allergies, we take reasonable measures to reduce the risk of exposure. Depending on the circumstances, this may include creating designated allergy-aware eating areas, seating campers with allergy-friendly lunch groups, increasing supervision during meal and snack times, and communicating allergy-related precautions to staff.

While we strive to minimize risks and maintain a safe environment, camp programs are not allergen-free, and we cannot guarantee that campers will not be exposed to allergens. Families are encouraged to contact us before camp if they have questions about their camper's specific needs or accommodations.

May I attend camp with my camper?

No, our well-trained counselors provide experiences that help increase your camper’s confidence in an inclusive, age-appropriate environment.

My camper wants to go to Creek Week. Do I need to register my camper for all four sessions of Creek Week camp?

No. To meet the high demand for our camps, we sometimes offer the same theme and activities of one camp (such as Creek Week or H2Whoa!) for multiple weeks. This allows greater numbers of children to enjoy these camps. Although children can attend multiple weeks of the same camp theme if they desire, the activities and content will not change week-to-week for each theme, so they would find themselves repeating the same activities in which they already participated.

Can my camper bring a phone or smartwatch?

No. Campers are not permitted to use cell phones or smartwatches at any CincyNature Camp. In an increasingly virtual world, being tech-free during camp is essential for the development of campers. Keeping cell phones and smartwatches at home allows campers to develop their social skills with face-to-face communication and practice of empathy. Without a cell phone, campers can immerse themselves in the beauty of nature, stimulating an appreciation for it. If a camper is seen using a phone, the Site Coordinator will put it in a safe space until pick-up time. If your camper needs a phone for a health or safety reason, please indicate it on their health form and contact the Camp Director before the start of camp.

Why are some camps at the same location priced differently?

Our camps are carefully priced based on the unique experience provided. Some themes include a meal, extra materials, special presentations from outside organizations, and/or additional staffing expenses.
