Join us to explore the sweeter side of winter with sweet maple days! We'll have guided hikes, tours of our maple sugaring house, and more!

Maple Tree Tapping Day

Sunday, January 10, 1:30-4:30 pm

Help us tap the trees as we start the sugaring season. Head out into the sugarbush with a maple guide to learn the ins and outs of tree identification, and tapping all while drilling holes, setting taps, and hanging sap buckets. We’ll have hot cocoa and a fire to warm up. Most appropriate for adults or interested youth age 8 and up with a caretaker. Members $7; nonmembers $12 (includes daily admission).

Hit the trail for a guided interactive maple hike. Collect sap in the sugarbush and see the steaming evaporator as we boil down to “liquid gold” maple syrup. Members free; nonmember adult $9; nonmember child $4 (includes daily admission).

Enjoy a behind-the-scenes experience designed for all ages. On this tour, we’ll take a look at the maple syrup evaporator and sugaring tools like skimmers, filters, and thermometers. You’ll be able to see inside the sap storage tanks, help set up for the day’s programs, and help prepare the materials to fire up the evaporator. Members $5; nonmembers $10 (includes daily admission).

 

Family Field Trip: Maple Tapping and Measurement

Explore the process of maple sugaring at Cincinnati Nature Center!  We will trek into the woods to collect maple sap by hand then head to the sugarhouse to watch how the sap is turned into maple syrup$10 a scout and siblings over 4. Each child must attend with a parent or leader. Leaders may receive one free adult ticket for every six child tickets purchased. Limit two per group. Adults $5.

Look at how sugaring has changed throughout history and visit the Sugar House. Help with sugaring work and sample warm maple syrup right off the evaporator.
