Teacher Trainings

Nature-based trainings and schoolyard consultations are available on our site or yours. Cincinnati Nature Center offers scheduled trainings throughout the year, as well as shortened sessions for school or district in-services. Contact Melissa Sabo at for more information or to schedule a specialized training at your school.

Events are offered throughout the year by Cincinnati Nature Center to provide public and private school teachers positive social, personal and educational experiences in nature. Some events will include teachers and their families, while others are for teachers only. Dates and times will vary based on topic.

Looking for a location for your next teacher in-service day? Schools receive 50% off our published rental fees for school-related meetings or professional development. Guided hikes by our school program naturalists or sessions for teachers led by us can also be included. (This offer excludes Krippendorf Lodge.)  Click here for more information.

Cornell Lab of Ornithology is partnering with Cincinnati Nature Center to offer an educator workshop June 19-20, 2019. We will target motivated educators in Ohio, with a special emphasis on 3rd-8th grade classroom teachers.

We will practice teaching skills, participate in powerful citizen-science projects, engage in discussion, and brainstorm methods for successful implementation, all while enjoying the natural beauty of Cincinnati. The workshop will focus creating bird-friendly, kid-friendly schoolyard garden with their students. Birds are readily observable wildlife for most schools, and teaching students to notice and appreciate their beauty and complexity can improve their interest in learning and their understanding of and investment in scientific investigation.

Educators will leave this workshop armed with tools, curriculum resources, bird feeders, organic fertilizer to support school gardens, and inspiration to spend more time learning outside alongside their students.

Graduate credit through Ashland University available. Teachers will sleep in rustic cabins on Cincinnati Nature Center’s property. Contact Melissa Sabo with questions at
