Wildlife Management
Cincinnati Nature Center is home to thousands of plants and animals. Some of these are rare, like the bigeye shiner and spotted salamander, while others, like white-tailed deer and Canada geese, can become overpopulated and cause damage to the habitat that they share with other wildlife.
As a result, it is important for CNC to take an active role in managing wildlife populations located on its land. With the help of volunteers, such as the Vernal Pool Monitoring Team, CNC routinely monitors wildlife populations in order to gather valuable data on species numbers, recruitment, and geographic location. These data are recorded by CNC staff and put into a Species Inventory. This information is vital with regards to native habitat restoration, enhancement, and preservation on CNC lands and helps guide CNC’s land management decisions.
