Nature PlayScape Initiative
The Nature PlayScape Intitative (NPI) is an organizational effort led by Cincinnati Nature Center to increase access to nature for children in our region. Click here to view our brochure.
Children Need Nature
Research tells us that unstructured play in nature is critical for healthy child development-physically, emotionally, intellectually, and spiritually. And because each generation spends less time in nature, it's never been more important to get kids connected to the earth.
Providing a Place for Nature Play
We must be more intentional in providing opportunities for children to play in nature. CNC’s Marge & Charles Schoot Nature PlayScape offers a safe place for children to play in nature while protecting CNC’s unique habitat.
We must overcome the barriers that impede nature play:
- Parental fear
- Preoccupation with electronic media
- Reduced access to green space
- Overemphasis on academic readiness and concurrent over-scheduling of children’s time
Serving Our Community
NPI aims to educate adults about the importance of unstructured play in nature and increase the number of natural play environments to ensure children have acces to our natural world.
We provide information and resources to companies, organizations, and municipalities looking to enhance or build natural play areas. Talk to us about:
- Speaking Engagements
- Consulting and information
- Tours of the Marge & Charles Schott Nature PlayScape
