EARTHHUGGERS WINTER/SPRING 2012

Children ages 3-4 will look will explore the forest, ponds, and fields of Rowe Woods. The four-part series meets one Saturday each month for four months. February 25      Maple Syrup Tasting     Discover where maple syrup comes from on a hike through the winter forest, and taste the sap directly from the tree. Then, we will come inside to taste maple syrup after it has gone through the cooking process. As we warm up indoors, Preschool director Tisha Luthy will tell an old Native American tale about the maple trees.

March 24      Secrets of Spring     Compare, contrast, and predict the changes that will occur as winter turns to spring. Search for signs of new life while outdoors in the rain or shine. Before heading in for a snack, we will stop by the pond to search for signs of warmer weather.

April 28     Over and Under the Soil     Get a little muddy as we dig into the soil and investigate what is under the soil, and then go on a hike to search for life above the soil.  Are flowers living?  A stop by the Herb Wall to take in all the fragrances of spring before we return for a snack that cme from the soil!

May 12     Bird Wonder     Take a hike to the playscape and spend some time engaged in pondering what birds do.  What are they doing?  We will become researchers at the bird blind and then try our hand at making nests in the playscape.  Wow those birds work hard!
