Earth Moves...
Dec. 10 from 9-10:30 am
A movement practice based on the Five Rhythms: The Five Rhythms is a movement practice developed by Gabriel Roth at Esalen Institute on Big Sur, California. Esalen has been at the forefront of the human potental movement since the late sixties. The practice evolved out of the Gestalt therapeutic approach to healing.
The movement practice is based on the principle that energy moves in patterns, and patterns move in waves. The patterns in the human body echo those found in nature and correspond to the five elements and the five seasons. Five seasons----yes, indeed! You will learn more about this in the practice. The patterns can be seen in nature in the clyclical nature of the tides, the full moon, and the passage of day into night, and one season giving birth to another. The movement practice facilitates attunement of those cycles in the microcosm of the human body, to the corresponding energies in the macrocosm of the earth and its cycles.
The Practice: The program is 1.5 hours in length. There is a warm up phase and a cool down phase. The music is arranged in two separate waves. Each wave contains each of the five rhythms, and follows a pattern intended to move energies in the body. Energies, emotions and thoughts result in stress build up in the body and reflect an interruption of these natural cycles resulting in a sense of being disconnected from others and from the natural world. The practice aims at releasing the blocks which have interrupted the natural energy patterns in the mind/body. The practice facilitates a cathertic release of ideas, emotions and limitations which have interrupted the flow of the natural energy patterns in the body. Dancers experience a profound sense of harmony, joy and peace -- a connectedness to each other and to the greater whole.
